چکیده

Introduction Weaning from mechanical ventilation is defined as the process of release of ventilatory support and how the evaluation of this phase is conducted in the Spontaneous Breathing Test (SBT). One of the most used modes of SBT is the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). However, together with the mechanical ventilation modes it can be used the Automatic Tube Compensation (ATC), which compensates the resistance imposed by the endotracheal tube.

Comparison of Energy Expenditure and Oxygen Consumption of Spontaneous Breathing Trial Conducted With and Without Automatic Tube Compensation

BACKGROUND Weaning from mechanical ventilation is defined as the process of release of ventilatory support and how the evaluation of this phase is conducted in the spontaneous breathing trial (SBT). One of the most used modes of SBT is the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), which applies a continuous positive pressure in both inspiration and expiration. However, together with the mecha...

Does automatic tube compensation change metabolic parameters when added to pressure support mode during weaning?

Introduction Artificial airway increases work of breathing (WOB) during weaning [1] which is one of the reasons for weaning failure [2]. Pressure support ventilation (PSV) decreases WOB and oxygen expenditure by decreasing resistance caused by artificial airway. Because inspiratory flow changes with every breath during PSV, it can not constantly compansate the changes in resistance caused by ch...

Automatic Tube Compensation versus Pressure Support Ventilation and Extubation Outcome in Children: A Randomized Controlled Study

Background. Automatic tube compensation (ATC) has been developed to overcome the imposed work of breathing due to artificial airways during spontaneous breathing trials (SBTs). Objectives. This study aimed to assess extubation outcome after an SBT (spontaneous breathing trial) with ATC compared with pressure support ventilation (PSV) and to determine the risk factors for extubation failure. Met...

Background:  Successful weaning of the ventilator is a major challenge, especially in children. This study was conducted to compare the criteria of readiness for extubation and daily spontaneous breathing test (SBT) on the duration of mechanical ventilation and extubation failure rates. Materials and Metho...

Spontaneous Breathing Trial a Reliable Method for Weaning in Children

Introduction  Mechanical ventilation may be lifesaving intervention,It can be associated with complications,Thus, successful weaning is constitutive. One of the factors which is  important in successful weaning is  method of weaning. It is shown that  weaning is conducted successfully by using Spontaneous Breathing Trial (SBT) through T-piece and pressure support (PS) ventilation. But few studies ...
